Why do I need to counsel a dietitian?

Dietitians provide you with evidence-based guidance that is tailored to your nutrition, cultural and health needs. Based on professional assessments, we can provide you with recommendations to reduce the long-term risks of chronic diseases, minimize nutrient deficiencies and achieve optimal health.

1. You will eat healthier

We provide thorough nutrition assessment and screening for nutrient deficiencies in your diets. Following a healthy dietary structure is a key contributing factor to the long-term health as well as reduction in chronic diseases. We are here to help you to build that structure.

2. You will make confident and smarter choices

We provide you with nutrition and dietary education and help you to understand how food works in your body, also be able to identify important information during grocery shopping. Ultimately, you feel more confident in making conscious food choices and planning your own meals that are not only delicious but also meet your nutrient requirements.

3. You will gain access to a trusted source

You are no longer alone in your journey. We are here to support you to work through your barriers in achieving your health goals. We can provide innovative ideas in creating healthy and delicious meals and also monitor your progress through long-term commitments.

Who will benefit from nutrition counselling?

Nearly everyone. We all have to eat every day. Health is our greatest asset. Elaine dietitian takes account of each unique situations such as lifestyle, cultural background, food preferences and etc and help you to develop a personalized diet plans.

Food and nutrition can influence our health and chronic diseases risks. In the nutrition consultation, we help you to eat healthier and lower the health risks.

We also provide services for people with specific health concerns such as lowering blood sugar and cholesterol level, having better digestive health, weight management and so on.

How many visits do I need?

It depends. If you have a very good understanding of nutrition, you may only need a couple visits to get your questions answered and make sure that you are on the right track.

If you have heath goals to work on, we usually recommend starting with an initial appointment and follow up with regular revisits every 2-3 weeks until your goals are met.

We currently offer nutrition package which includes 1 initial assessment and 3 follow-up appointments. We also provide an complimentary 1-week customized meal plans in this nutrition package. It is a great comprehensive nutrition services that guides you to establish healthy eating!

Are dietitian services covered through extended health benefits?

Dietitian's services are covered by many extended health plans. However, we don't guarantee reimbursement. Please check your insurance policy for your own coverage details.

If you don't have coverage for dietitian services, you can include the invoice with your medical expenses for income tax return purposes. In British Columbia, Registered Dietitians are classified as an “Authorized Medical Practitioner”.​

What is the difference between dietitian and nutritionist?

A Registered Dietitian (RD) is a legally protected title across Canada. A Nutritionist in BC is not the same as a Registered Dietitian. The title of "Nutritionists" is not governed by a regulatory body in BC. Anyone in BC can use the title of "nutritionist".

Dietitians are certified health professionals and graduated from accredited university program with finishing internships (usually in hospital settings). Dietitians in BC are held accountable for the BC College of Dietitians and adhere to high ethics and practice standards.

What if I want to cancel or reschedule an appointment?

When you book your appointment, we reserve a space for you on our calendar that is no longer available to other clients. Please contact us by email or phone as soon as you know you will not be able to attend your appointment. Your advanced notice will allow another client access to that appointment time.

We understand unexpected things may come up. If cancellation is necessary, we require that you let us know at least 48 hours in advance.

What payment method do you accept?

E-transfer only.

For the nutrition package, how the receipts are provided?

Once $500 is paid, you will receive an email confirmation about the prepayment. Receipt will be provided/emailed to you after each appointment reflecting the session date. Starting from the initial appointment, you will have 3 month to complete the package services. For the nutrition package, it includes:

  1. Initial appointment priced at $150
  2. Each follow-up is 1 hour (total 3 sessions). Each session is $120. The final session will be at a reduced fee for $110.
  3. One-week meal plans (compliementary)
$500 in total (no tax).

When is the payment due?

Paying before the session is highly encouraged. E-transfer payment is due within an hour after the consultation is completed.
